12. This was my last appearance on any stage. It was some time, though,
before I heard the end of the William Tell business. Malicious little boys
who hadn't been allowed to buy tickets to my theater used to cry out after
me in the street,-"'Who killed Cock Robin?'"

1. More than a thousand years ago, (in the year 849), a prince was born in
England, who afterwards became one of the most celebrated and best loved
kings in the world. His name was Alfred--afterwards called Alfred the
Great--and he was the favorite son both of the king and queen.
